I love how looking at a single image can surface such vivid memories.
This image reminds me of a day that started at 3am. Alex Bacon of Slake Magazine and local-surfer Chris Wells came knocking in the wee hours of a crispy cool winter morning while a new WNW swell was showing on the buoys. We jumped in Bacon's trip ship, stopped at 7-Eleven for coffee and off we went into the darkness heading north on the 405. Hours later we found ourselves in a small CentralCal town searching for caffeine. As luck would have it, we were driving through town and caught a french pastry shop just opening. We walked in, the owners greeted us with a welcoming smile, gave us the goods and off we went. After an hour of searching for waves, we finally settled at a well-known spot which ended up being about 4-5ft with howling offshore winds. The lighting was pretty nice too (although hard to tell from the above photo). I stood shooting in the crisp, cool air while Wells killed the main peak. After a solid 2 hours, we knew we had captured the goods. We headed back to Bacon's trip ship checked the images and drove away with a smile knowing it was all worth it.
